insuranceOSHA Orders Railroad Company to Reverse Suspension After Whistleblower Report Investigation
A U.S. Department of Labor whistleblower investigation determined that Canadian Pacific Kansas City Ltd. wrongfully suspended an employee for reporting a minor train collision and safety issues under the Federal Railroad Safety Act. Although the worker learned of the August 2024 incident from a colleague rather than witnessing it directly, management failed to act until the report prompted a federal inspection. Consequently, OSHA ordered the company to rescind the twenty-day suspension, pay back wages with interest, remove disciplinary records, and provide compensatory and punitive damages.
